Joël Lesdema is a French visual artist whose journey began with sketching emotions and evolved into powerful expressions in both painting and sculpture. Based in Combs-la-Ville, his work explores the fragility of identity, the depth of silence, and the beauty of abstract forms.

Deeply influenced by masters such as Van Gogh and Modigliani, Joël finds inspiration in the raw beauty of humanity and the rhythm of nature. Each stroke carries intention, each sculpture tells a story.

Who is Joël Lesdema?

Joël Lesdema is a French painter and sculptor whose work blends raw emotion with refined technique. Born in Martinique and based in Combs-la-Ville, his artistic voice is rooted in introspection, cultural depth, and visual poetry.

Artistic Philosophy

“Art must touch the soul before it pleases the eye.” This belief guides Joël’s approach. He explores identity, silence, and resilience through brushstrokes and chisel marks, inviting viewers into emotionally charged landscapes both real and imagined.

Artistic Journey

  • 1995–2005: Early explorations in drawing and figurative painting, influenced by Caribbean identity and European classics.
  • 1995–2005: Early explorations in charcoal and watercolor, exploring Caribbean identity and classical European figures.
  • 2010: First public exhibition in Île-de-France. Themes of silence, struggle, and memory emerge strongly in his abstract pieces.
  • 2010: 2010: First solo exhibition at Maison des Arts de Lieusaint, Île-de-France.
  • Today: Full-time artist working on commissioned portraits, conceptual collections, and digital teaching materials for emerging artists.

Artist's Statement

I don’t paint what I see — I paint what I feel. Each canvas is a conversation with my inner world. I invite others not just to observe, but to feel, reflect, and maybe even remember something they’ve forgotten.
